Warwick Racecourse will bring down the curtains on another successful season with its final fixture of 2017/18 on Wednesday evening. 

Celebration Raceday on Wednesday, May 30 will mark the close of the season at the racecourse and will also be the finale of the Qatar Airways Warwick May Racing Carnival.

A packed seven race card will get underway at 5.05pm with the final race due off at 8.20pm.

The season at Warwick commenced on Tuesday, September 26 with Blairs Cove winning the first race of the season for Alcester trainer Dan Skelton.

Skelton’s success at the course has continued throughout the year, with his runners giving him 10 visits to the Winner’s Circle over the past nine months.

His nearest rival Alan King has had 8 winners and Skelton is odds-on to be crowned the leading trainer at Warwick for what will be a third successive year.

Andre Klein, General Manager at Warwick Racecourse, said: “We are blessed with some outstanding trainers living close to our track and this has been a real benefit.

“Whilst Dan Skelton has established himself very quickly as a leading trainer in the country, we are fortunate to have the latest training sensation Olly Murphy based locally in Wilmcote and established names like Ian Williams, Charlie Longsdon and Ben Pauling all operating close by.

“This strength in or close to Warwickshire has certainly assisted our drive to be acknowledged as a top grade small racecourse.

“Nicky Henderson and Alan King both send their top horses here regularly. The presence of these trainers and their horses has provided a real attraction for local racing fans and the form lines from Warwick are certainly worth following.”

Warwick has hosted 18 fixtures this season, with Celebration Raceday a brand new fixture for 2018.

“There have been many highlights this year from a racing perspective with quality horses competing in all race categories,” added Andre.

“It’s difficult to choose the top moments of the season but it has to be the first British win of 2018 for Cheltenham Champion Hurdle hope We Have A Dream trained by Nicky Henderson. Then of course Bryony Frost’s bold front-running win in our biggest race this year, the Classic Chase.

“The win on Proudly Warwick Race Day from Irish Octave was fantastic, trained by the uncelebrated but life-long horsewoman Rosemary Gasson. The victory typified what a wonderfully emotional sport racing can be.”

Celebration Race Day will give racegoers the last opportunity to enjoy racing action at Warwick until the new season starts on Tuesday, September 25.

 

Alongside the on-track action racegoers will be able to enjoy live music from a leading Ed Sheeran tribute act.
